Summary of the Blog

The blog contains three reflections on:

1)    ICT as a Informative Tool: Here in this reflection, it basically talks about the shift in my understanding of seeing informative tools as only traditional resources to recognizing the value of digital platforms like YouTube and Online content. These tool aid in flexible, visual and self-paced learning. However, their effectiveness depends on source reliability and critical thinking.

Key aspects of the reflection:

1. Initial view: Informative tools were once seen only as books and notes.

2. Expanded understanding: Realization that ICT tools like YouTube and internet resources are powerful educational aids.

3. Benefits: Enhanced understanding, visual learning, flexible pacing, and independent learning.

4. Challenges: Risk of misinformation, distractions, and time mismanagement.

5. Skills developed: Source verification, critical thinking, and responsibility for personal learning.

6. Overall insight: Digital informative tools are transformative but require disciplined use.

2. ICT as a communicative Tools:

1. Expanded understanding: I realized that tools like Telegram and Moodle are powerful platforms for academic work, offering group interaction, file sharing and structured learning.

2. Benefits:

·       Easy group collaboration.

·       File sharing of all types and sizes.

·       Access to materials anytime via channels.

·       Better message control (edit/delete/options)

3. Challenges discussed:

·       Message overload in large groups.

·       Distractions from non-academic channels.

·       Moodle upload issues with large videos.

·       Broken links occasionally in Moodle.

 

ICT as a Constructive tool:

1.     ICT was once viewed as a means of accessing information.

2.     Now recognized as a constructive tool that reshapes learning, collaboration, creativity and problem solving.

3.     ICT encourages active learning and knowledge construction.

4.     Benefits highlighted:

·       Promoting learner autonomy and ownership of learning

·       Facilitates learning through interactive platforms like: Padlet, Canva, Phet simulations and mind mapping tools.

·       Supports 21st century skill development.

5.     Challenges:

·       Risk of distraction.

·       Superficial use

·       Equity issues

·       Need for digital literacy.

Video Clip on Google Earth as a situating  tool: Talks about the effectiveness of Google Earth in making learning engaging, fun and catering to visual learning by situating to another environment without having to move in person. Talks a  little bit on aerial and lateral distance calculations and what subjects can be taught via Google Search.
